Before signing with Bad Boy, Diddy asked his people to have Joc come to his office. Diddy wanted a live performance and of course, Joc was happy to accommodate. The problem was that Diddy begin Diddy, wouldn’t even look up from his meal to acknowledge Joc. He was basically ignoring him on purpose as a test to see how much Joc wanted it and how skilled he was at drawing attention. So Young Joc literally hopped up on Diddy’s couch and started doing the motorcycle dance to “It’s Goin’ Down”!
At the start of his career, Yung Joc began releasing his own music through his record label, Mastermind. In 2005, he teamed up with Atlanta producer, Nitti Beatz. Shortly after in 2006, the two recorded the hit “It’s Goin’ Down”. This Southern sensation won the BET Hip Hop Award for Best Track of the Year and went triple platinum. Joc soon gained the attention of the well-known rapper, P. Diddy. Diddy signed him to the record label, Bad Boy Records, for a multi-million dollar deal.
Bad Boy Records released Joc’s album, New Joc City, in the summer of 2006. The album sold over 148,000 copies in the first week and made nearly $350,000. Joc made it on Forbes’ Richest Rappers List, having grossed around $10 million in the year of 2006. The following year, he released his second album, Hustlenomics, which contained the hit tracks “Coffee Shop“ and “Bottle Poppin’”. The album sold 69,000 copies in its first week and made nearly $290,000. Joc also independently released his album, The Grind Flu, in 2009 and has featured on many hits throughout the years. He is currently signed with RCA records and working on a new album.
