Born in Long Beach, California on July 2, 1993, Vince Staples grew up with divorced parents. He was the youngest of the children his mother had, while he had a brother through his father. With parents who couldn’t take care of him, one in jail often and the other away at work no matter the circumstances, he was often with his grandparents. When his grandmother and a good friend died, he began to get involved in heavy gang activity. He moved to Atlanta to try and get away from it, but was only there for eight months.

When he returned, he dropped out of school and was kicked out of his house more than once.
He never intended to become a rapper, but he was featured in some of the songs written by Dijon “LaVish” Samn and Chuck Wun, whom he had started to associate with to get away from his old life. Fans, amazing reviews and some other factors pushed Staples to release his first mix tape a few years later. Well known works of his include the album Stolen Youth and the single Hive. He is also known for his work in the hip hop group Cutthroat Boyz, where he is one of the three members. Recent works include a music video for the song “Blue Suede”, both of which are on iTunes, and an album entitled Hell Can Wait. He has admitted that Hell Can Wait and his most recent album, Summertime ’06, are about his gang activity and that general period of his life.
