OMI was born on September 3, 1986 in Jamaica. His birth name was Omar Samuel Pasley. At the age of 14, he was writing music. The reasoning he gave was that the words (the poetry portion) always interested him. After all, his father had been a writer and an artist, but had passed away when OMI was only nine years old. Everyone knew his passion by the time he was a freshman in high school and those that heard him preform what he had written encouraged him to find a studio to record in. About 2007 or 2008, he managed to do just that.

2. Income & Salary
OMI found an underground studio and began to record his music. It was there he met the man that would eventually give him a professional studio in Kingston, Jamaica: Clifton Dillon. With Dillon, he found himself whisked to a better studio and better able to record his music. He soon had a portfolio of songs to give to Dillon and his hit “Cheerleader” was in the portfolio. At the time, it was a chorus and two verses, or a baby song. Dillon was quick to see the potential of the song and they added a third verse, worked on the beat, and gave it the feel everyone knows it for. This is arguably OMI’s best work due to how quickly it caught on. Starting in Hawaii and growing with each performance, “Cheerleader” became a favorite song for everyone that heard it. In 2014, Felix Jaehn remixed “Cheerleader” and further enhanced the likability of the song. It stayed in the number one spot for four weeks in a row in the UK, breaking the record for how long a Jamaican artist had been in that spot.
