Born on February 15, 1954, in Portland, Oregon, Matthew Abram Groening (better known as Matt Groening) is the middle of five children whose parents, Margaret Ruth nÌ©e Wiggum and Homer Philip Groening, were a teacher and cartoonist respectively. Groening married Deborah Caplan in 1986 and had two children with her: Homer (who goes by Will) and Abe.
