Jonathan “Jon” Stewart is an American icon. A former stand-up comedian, he has made a name for himself as an author, television host and satirical critic. Born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, on November 28, 1962, he is the second of four sons born to Mary and Donald Leibowitz in New York City. When starting out on the stand-up circuit, Jon dropped his last name, using ‰Û÷Stewart‰Ûª in his work. He met his wife, Tracey Lyn McShane, while working in film on a blind date in 1997. The couple were seen together for several years and married in 2000. After marriage, both he and his wife officially changed their surnames names to ‘Stewart’ in 2001. The couple has two children, Nathan and Maggie, born in 2004 and 2006.

After several years as a comedian, he quickly branched out to film roles and to host shows on both Comedy Central and MTV. These included Short Attention Span Theater and The Jon Stewart Show where his wit and charisma caught the eye of David Letterman. He began comedy writing for Letterman soon after. In 1999, Stewart was tapped to host The Daily Show, a satirical “news” program on Comedy Central, replacing the original host, Craig Kilborn. His popularity soared and ratings for the show quickly grew as people enjoyed his outrageous take on daily events. This fame even allowed him the opportunity to host the Academy Awards twice.
