Domenico Dolce was born on August 13, 1958 in Polizzi Generosa Italy when he began tailoring clothes at age six. åÊThat’s 1964 for anyone doing the math. åÊDolce met Stefano Gabbana in 1980 where Dolce worked at a fashion house where Gabbana applied for work. åÊThe two quickly fell in love before the younger Gabbana had to leave for mandatory military service for 18 months. åÊIn 1982, when Gabbana returned from military service, the two started their own fashion consulting studio. åÊDolce took Gabbana under his wing teaching him everything he knew about how the fashion and fashion design industry worked. åÊAn accountant suggested that they invoice clients together rather separately to make things less complicated thus the “Dolce & Gabbana” name was born. åÊThe pair are still very much together at the helm of the fashion empire they created but not longer dating and confirmed officially splitting up romantically in 2005. åÊThough they hve been known to be part of the jet-set lifestyle entertaining on their yacht and attending night clubs in Milan, the two have also claimed that they have mellowed out quite a bit. åÊThey both have large Italian families and call Sundays “Family Day.” åÊThey have also expressed interest in having children and possibly adopting but said will have to settle on spoiling nieces and nephews instead citing Italy’s unfriendly view on homosexual adoption.
