Dolly Parton is an American singer, songwriter, and country music icon. She was born on January 19, 1946 in Sevier County, Tennessee. She was the 4th of 12 children born to a family of poor tobacco farmers. She got her start in performing arts at a young age with her grandmother, who was a Pentecostal preacher. At the age of 10 she was already appearing on local radio in Knoxville, Tennessee. Parton married in 1966 to Carl Thomas Dean. Although they have no children, they have been happily married for over 45 years.
