2. He turned down some big roles

An A-list actor like Denzel Washington has been offered many roles during his acting career, and, naturally, he has had to turn some of them down. Washington was offered the leading role in the film Blade (the role Wesley Snipes is now famous for). He also turned down a role in Amistad (for which actor Djimon Hounsou now has a Golden Globe nomination).

Still, he says the biggest regret of his acting career was the lead role in the movie Seven, a 1990’s detective thriller. However, he was also offered a role in the film Devil in a Blue Dress (which wasn’t nearly as successful) and turned down the role that Brad Pitt is now famed for.

3. He believes in a prophecy told in 1975

About forty years ago, when he was around twenty years old, a woman at his mother’s beauty shop wrote down a prophecy and gave it to Washington’s mother. The woman was known as a prophetess. She wrote that he would speak to millions of people. She also said that he would travel the world and preach to millions.

At the time, he didn’t know what she was talking about, but once his acting career started to take off and he became known by millions, the message became more clear. The prophecy has been something that has stuck with Washington for years, so much that he carried the written prophecy in his wallet for years. This must have been a meaningful moment in his life, especially since he started to reject taking becoming a minister in his early teens because he was afraid going to church would start to feel like going to work.
