Barbara Ann Corcoran is an accomplished businesswoman, investor, consultant, author, speaker, columnist and a television personality on NBC‰Ûªs ‰ÛÏShark Tank.‰Û On March 10, 1949, Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey. She was the second oldest of 10 children. In 1971, Corcoran graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas College earning a degree in education. Before completing college, she held 20 different odd jobs, ranging from selling hot dogs to a housemother at an orphanage. After graduating from college, Corcoran worked as a waitress at a diner when she met her then boyfriend, Ray Simone. In 1973, she co-founded a real estate business known as, ‰ÛÏCorcoran-Simone‰ÛÏ with the financial backing of a $1,000 loan from Simone. Eventually, the company grew to 14 agents and grossed an annual revenue of $560,000. However, Simone left Corcoran to marry another woman and told her that she would never make it in real estate without him. His statement motivated her to open the first woman-owned real estate firm called, ‰ÛÏThe Corcoran Group‰Û in 1978. In 2001, Corcoran sold her business of 850 salespeople with an annual revenue of $97 million to NRT Inc. for $66 million.
