After playing college basketball at Auburn, Barkley was chosen by the Philadelphia 76’ers in the 1984 NBA draft. At about 6’6” and generally well over his listed 250 pounds, Barkley was shorter and wider than most NBA power forwards earning him the nickname “The Round Mound of Rebound”. In fact, Barkley is the shortest player to ever lead the NBA in rebounding. After 16 years in the NBA, Barkley retired in 2000 after being selected to 11 All-NBA Teams and winning two gold medals in the Olympics. Barkley’s salary varied greatly in the NBA, from a low of about $440,000 for the 1985-86 season to a high of $9,000,000 for the 1999-00 season.
